What is Reverse IP Lookup?

A Reverse IP Lookup is a technique used to identify all the domain names that are hosted on a specific IP address. While a standard DNS lookup (A Record) translates a domain name (like google.com) into an IP address, a reverse lookup does the opposite: it starts with the IP and lists the domains associated with it.

How Does It Work?

In the modern web, it is common for a single web server (IP address) to host hundreds or even thousands of different websites. This is known as "Shared Hosting" or "Virtual Hosting." The web server uses the request headers to determine which website to show the visitor. A Reverse IP Lookup queries historical DNS records to reveal these "neighboring" websites.

Why Use Reverse IP Lookup?

  • Identify "Bad Neighbors": If you are on shared hosting, your site's reputation (and email deliverability) can be affected by other sites on the same IP. Finding spammy or malicious neighbors allows you to request a server migration.
  • Competitor Analysis: You can see if a competitor owns other websites hosted on the same dedicated server, potentially revealing their private blog networks (PBNs) or affiliate sites.
  • Cybersecurity: Security researchers use this to map out the infrastructure of an attacker by seeing what other domains are hosted on a malicious IP.

Limitations

If a website uses a Content Delivery Network (CDN) like Cloudflare or Akamai, the IP address will belong to the CDN, not the origin server. In this case, a Reverse IP Lookup will often return thousands of unrelated sites that happen to share the same CDN node, effectively masking the true origin server neighbors.

Disclaimer: This tool utilizes a deterministic simulation algorithm to generate the list of domains and server statistics. Due to the decentralized nature of DNS and browser security restrictions (CORS), it is not possible to perform a comprehensive, live Reverse IP Lookup purely via client-side JavaScript without an external API proxy. The results shown here mimic realistic shared hosting environments for educational and testing purposes.
