What is an XML Sitemap?
An XML Sitemap is a specifically formatted text file that lists all the important pages on your website. It acts as a roadmap for search engines like Google and Bing, helping them discover, crawl, and index your content more efficiently.
Key Sitemap Tags Explained
- <loc>: The absolute URL of the page. This is the only mandatory tag for each entry.
- <lastmod>: The date when the content was last updated (YYYY-MM-DD). This helps search engines know if they need to re-crawl a page.
- <changefreq>: A hint to crawlers about how frequently the page changes (e.g., 'daily' for news, 'monthly' for archives).
- <priority>: A value between 0.0 and 1.0 indicating the importance of the page relative to other pages on your site. Default is usually 0.5.

3. Submit: Log in to Google Search Console, go to the "Sitemaps" section, and submit your sitemap URL (e.g., https://yoursite.com/sitemap.xml).
